Queer Outdoor Adventure Photography

With the beauty of October descending across the foothills and pastures of Southern Vermont, The Venture Out Project and Marmot Mountain Works partnered with professional photographer and climber Nikki Smith to host a day of learning and community on Basecamp's 40 acres. 

Nikki Smith demonstrates lighting techniques on subject Perry Cohen at her Queer Outdoor Adventure Photography workshop.

Participants started with a presentation and round-table conversation in the Main House before moving outdoors to put their new knowledge into play beside the pond, lined with blackcap brambles and fallen pine straw. They practiced lighting and composition in the orchard, movement and compassionate subject direction at the riverfront, and finished with a debrief beside the Teaching Gardens.
